How MySentry compares to uptime checkers, developer error trackers and enterprise observability

Monitoring tools come in three families, and each is excellent at the job it was built for. Uptime checkers watch a site from the outside. Developer error trackers watch an application from the inside and charge by volume. Enterprise observability does everything, for teams with a budget and an on-call rota. MySentry takes the parts a small business actually needs from all three and sells them for a flat price per website.

The three families

Uptime checkers (UptimeRobot, Pingdom, StatusCake, Better Stack’s uptime tier and many others) request your site on a schedule and alert when it stops answering. They are cheap, often free for a few monitors, and blind to everything that happens inside a page that still returns 200 OK: the checkout that throws, the form that fails to send, the import that stopped.

Developer error trackers (Sentry, Bugsnag, Rollbar) capture exceptions with full stack traces, releases and source maps. They are superb for engineering teams and priced accordingly — by event volume and by seat — and they assume someone who reads stack traces is looking at them daily. Uptime and cron monitoring are add-ons or separate products.

Enterprise observability (Datadog, New Relic, Grafana Cloud) covers metrics, logs, traces and synthetic checks across fleets of services. It is the right tool for a platform team and far more — in setup, in concepts and in cost — than a shop with one website or an agency with thirty needs.

“Partly” means the capability exists in some products of the family, on some plans, or through an add-on. Product families change; this table describes the typical shape of each family, not any one vendor’s current plan.

Where MySentry deliberately does less

  • No traces, logs, session replay or source maps. Those are developer-team tools and the wrong size for a small site.
  • Checks run from one EU location today, with a two-consecutive-failure rule rather than multi-region voting.
  • No public status pages or read API yet; both are on the roadmap.
  • Analytics answers “is anyone visiting, from where, which pages” — not funnels or user journeys, which require identifying people.

If you need any of those, one of the three families above will serve you better, and MySentry will happily sit alongside it watching the things it misses.

What MySentry is for

A small business or an agency that wants, for a predictable monthly sum per site, to be told — once, in plain language, on Slack or a phone — when a site is down, when a page is broken, when a form stopped sending, when a nightly job stopped running, and when a domain is about to expire. See the pricing and the FAQ for the rules in detail.

Comparison questions

How is MySentry different from UptimeRobot, Pingdom or StatusCake?

Uptime checkers tell you whether the front page answers. They cannot see a checkout that throws an error, a contact form whose emails silently fail, or a nightly backup job that stopped running three weeks ago. MySentry covers uptime and those inside failures in one panel, for one flat price per website.

How is MySentry different from Sentry or other developer error trackers?

Developer error trackers are built for engineering teams: priced by the volume of events and written on the assumption that someone reads stack traces every day. MySentry is built for the owner of a small site — a flat price per website with uptime and cron monitoring included, alerts written for humans, and the technical detail one click away when your developer needs it.
